In 1999, my wife Anna and I adopted our first dog Maggie from Capital Area Humane Society (now called Columbus Humane). In 2005, we added a second dog who was found chained to a tree. Sasha was a mixed breed American bulldog, and was often considered a pit bull. After Maggie passed, we adopted another dog from Capital Area named Sparky. He was part of their "Special Adoptables" program as he was labeled a pit bull, even though he was probably some sort of mix. Back then, Ohio had in place a law requiring higher homeowners insurance, fencing heights, and other restrictions on any dogs labeled as pit bulls. We quickly became involved in this area of animal advocacy work. We worked with other advocates to help strike down the breed specific language in the Ohio Revised Code.
We lost both Sasha and Sparky, and over the last two years have adopted two cats and two more dogs, all rescues.
We will support animal rescues and shelters listed here with much-needed financial resources, and we will continue to advocate for those who have no voice.
