My IT career has been quite a journey.
After graduating from The Ohio State University in 1996 with a BA in Political Science, I thought about law school, an MBA program, or other graduate school program but could not really decide. I’d always been fascinated with technology and the Internet was really beginning to take off during the time I was at OSU. However, at that time, there weren’t a lot of IT career paths that appealed to me. I had been working in restaurants for a few years during college and really enjoyed that so decided to get into restaurant management and eventually became a Sous Chef. While I really enjoyed the work and the people, the schedule of working every weekend and nearly every holiday began to take its toll.
Looking for a career change, and still attracted to the legal field, I enrolled and graduated from the post-BA Paralegal Program at Capital University Law School. While there, I met an instructor who was an attorney and co-owner of a startup company focusing on supporting the IT in law firms and other professional service companies. This seemed like a great fit so I took a position with their company – starting out in basic tech support of all shapes and sizes and quickly advancing. Fast forward 12 years and my technical skills had grown tremendously, as had that company. In my role as Vice President, I led the IT Infrastructure and Support department as well as the Cloud services initiative we started in 2010.
In 2013 I moved on to a different company where I could further expand my technical skills into some larger projects and Enterprise support, in addition to the small to medium size businesses (SMB) support I had done for many years.
Starting Cluxton IT Consulting has been a dream for many years. My goal is to work with the portfolio of technology partners that I’ve curated to provide support to the SMBs as their de facto IT team, as well as Enterprise projects for larger businesses. Most SMBs do not have their own full-time IT staff but it’s critically important their systems work reliably and efficiently. Technology has grown and changed exponentially over the past 20+ years; it has become nearly impossible for one person to be an expert in all areas. This is why I’ve carefully identified other IT businesses and partners for collaboration - so that Cluxton IT Consulting can deliver the best possible IT services to your business.
